Most wonderful tasty Matcha I've tasted in the United States ever! I can't wait to write this review as soon as I'm finished my first cup of warm Matcha just now! My family and I are Matcha fans since many many years ago. My parents used to buy Matcha powder from Japan every time we went for a visit, or received as souvenir from Japanese friends. but since now we moved to the States and do not travel that much, I have to look for substitute from Japanese supermarket by myself. Well, they are alright, but somehow I felt something is missing. Today, I'm just so honored to learn and review this product at a discounted price in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. For my personal drinking experience, this is definitely a ceremonial grade, no doubt is one premium Japanese Matcha Powder. There are some reviewers in here complaining about the size of the product, so I think it's worth mentioning that it's pretty much standard for super premium matcha products to come in small 28-30g tins. Lower quality matcha come in bigger sizes for baking or smoothie purposes. You get what you pay for!

That being said, this is a fine product. I grew up in Japan and have had the privilege of experiencing tea ceremonies, and I can confidently say this lives up to my fond memories of tea ceremonies.

I've added photos of two traditional ways of making matcha for tea ceremony. The koicha was made with three scoops of matcha (using traditional chashaku) and the usucha was made with about a scoop and a half. I used about 1-2 oz water (just under boiling) for koicha and 2-3 oz for usucha. The characteristic fine foam of the usucha can't be made with a regular whisk from my experience, so be sure to use a traditional bamboo chasen whisk.

I also see some people saying that this tea is too bitter. It could very well be caused by using water that's too hot. One should never use boiling water for green tea, especially for matcha, because it will burn the leaves/powder and cause that bitter taste. If it's still too bitter for you to drink straight, there's no shame in mixing in some milk and sugar to enjoy a mellower version of the matcha flavor. Hope that helps!

Green Goodness in a Cup, or Popsicle….

When I got this tea I was really excited to introduce Matcha Tea to my husband and young children. It has a sweeter flavor than other Matchas I have had in the past and it really won over my husband when I made him an iced green tea latte. I used full fat coconut milk, honey and ice with the Matcha in a blender and the froth was perfect, the color stunning and the taste was refreshing. I also used some with a bit of vanilla yogurt in the popsicle molds I make for my kids. They were a total hit!

If you are new to Matcha, or are looking for a green tea with a lighter flavor profile, this is the tea for you! Make a straight up green tea, ice it, latte it, get funky and bake with it, you won't be disappointed!
